The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is an agency in the federal government committed to protecting, conserving and enhancing fish, wildlife, plants and habitat. They also have the responsibility of making sure that federal wildlife laws are enforced. The USFWS was created in 1973 as an organization inside the Department of the Interior under the name U.S. Bureau of Sport Fisheries and Wildlife (USBSFW). In 1978, President Jimmy Carter signed legislation making the Bureau an independent one with its own director, who reported directly on Secretary of the Interior Cecil D. Andrus who was the head of each Bureau until 1985, when each Bureau was given its own Director to and report to Cecil D. Andrus separately.
Ecosystems are difficult to recreate, and therefore, once an essential species is lost, it can be very difficult to recreate the same system. These species are critically important for science, which is the reason why it's important to ensure their protection. They provide us with data about the ecosystems within which they reside and the latest technology has made this information even more useful than it once was.
Once a decline in population has been arrested, following is increasing the number of animals until they are spread throughout the natural environment. The goal is to have enough animals that can be able to survive on their own and not depend on human intervention for survival. In certain instances it is required when there are very few wild animals. In 2004, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service developed the recovery plan, which was executed from 2005 through 2010. The law enables the protection of animals that are threatened or endangered threatened across all or some of their range , as well as the protection of the ecosystems the which these species depend. The law has assisted many animals, including animals like ferrets with black feet, California condor and gray wolf. Other species include the red kangaroo, the green sea turtles, to recover. In the United States, The US Fish And Wildlife Service (USFWS) is the agency responsible for the protection of these species as well as thousands of others across America under its authority.
Threatened species are defined according to ESA by ESA as "any species which is likely to become an endangered species within the foreseeable future throughout all or a significant portion of its range." In the present, there are more than 300 million people in the US in comparison to over 76 million a hundred years ago. In the past, a variety of factors have contributed to a dramatic decline in the number of wildlife species and habitat loss. In the year 2014, according to the North American Breeding Bird Survey 40% of all bird species have experienced significant declines in their populations.
Making wise investments in protecting and restoring habitats in which threatened species live will eventually bring more money towards the U.S. economy. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service have plans for five years of funding recovery projects. They are dedicated to conserving, protecting and restoring habitats in the interests of saving threatened species, but additionally because it will save taxpayers money in the long run because these habitats serve as buffers against drought and flooding and provide the cleanest water, erosion prevention, and creating recreation opportunities.
